AI Dark Circle Analysis — Measured, Not Guessed
Dark circles are one of the strongest predictors of how 'tired' or 'older' a face reads. LooksMax Scan measures the luminance delta of your under-eye against your own cheek reference — a measurement, not a vibe check.
What gets measured
- LAB L-channel luminance differential under each eye
- Cheek-baseline reference so skin tone does not skew the score
- Separate score per side (left vs right)
- Heatmap that shows the area driving the score
How the AI measures dark circles
The pipeline uses MediaPipe to find the periorbital polygon on each side. The L channel of LAB is sampled both inside that polygon and inside a cheek reference polygon on the same side.
The score is the luminance differential — how much darker the under-eye is than the same-side cheek. Skin tone is not a confound because the reference is your own face.
FAQ
Can dark circles actually be reduced?
It depends on the cause. Vascular dark circles (visible blood vessels) respond to caffeine, vitamin K, and laser. Pigmented dark circles respond to brightening actives and sun protection. Structural shadow from tear-trough hollows responds only to filler / surgery.
Does the time of day matter?
Yes. Most people are darker first thing in the morning and after poor sleep. Scan at the same time of day for cleaner comparisons.
