How the AI measures dark circles
The pipeline finds the under-eye region on each side. Brightness is sampled both inside that region and inside a cheek reference area on the same side.
The score is the luminance differential — how much darker the under-eye is than the same-side cheek. Using your own face as the reference reduces cross-person skin-tone effects, but lighting and shadows still matter.
FAQ
Can a selfie reveal what causes dark circles?
No. A photo can show a brightness difference, but it cannot reliably separate pigment, visible vessels, anatomy, shadows, allergies, or other causes. Persistent or concerning changes are best discussed with a qualified clinician.
Does the time of day matter?
Yes. Most people are darker first thing in the morning and after poor sleep. Scan at the same time of day for cleaner comparisons.
