How the AI detects acne
The detection pipeline uses YOLOv8 object detection fine-tuned on dermatological imagery, combined with SAHI (Slicing Aided Hyper Inference) so small lesions are not lost when the image is downscaled.
MediaPipe places 478 face landmarks on your photo and isolates the actual skin zones. False positives from hair, eyebrows, lips, jewellery and nostrils are filtered out.
Each detected spot gets a confidence score. You see the heatmap, the per-zone count and an inflammation load summary — not a single opaque number.
